The Cornerstone Youth Centre is an important part of the Mayland Heights, Vista Heights and Belfast Communities. We have approximately 18 regular volunteers at this time without whom we could not do what we do. Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization and they provide, roughly, 4,000 hours of volunteer time per year. We have another group of volunteers that provide another 500 hours of volunteer time each year. So, all of our volunteers together contribute 4,500 valuable hours of their time each and every year. Our volunteers are required to fill out a volunteer application form, provide at least 3 referrences, undergo a police check and agree to attend regular volunteer training workshops.
Volunteering with young teens is not everyones cup of tea. There are many challenges but there are also many rewards. We have learned over the years that the rewards outweigh the challenges. The sense of satisfaction that comes from having had an impact on the life of a 13 or 14 year old youth is one that is hard to describe and needs to be experienced in order to be understood. We believe that our youth need positive role models these days and that is the greatest gift that our volunteers can give them.
Our mission statement reads: Cornerstone Youth Centre exists to guide community youth to make right spiritual, intellectual, social and physical choices. This is the mandate that staff and volunteers endeavour to carry out each day.
If you would like to be a part of our volunteer team at Cornerstone please contact us and ask to speak with Ginny. We would love to hear from you.
